This series of paintings explores the local animals of my new home in Calgary, AB. I was interested in turning my love of portraiture toward animal subjects, using painting as a way to learn about my new neighbors. At the same time, I wanted to experiment with bold patterns and vibrant color to push the work beyond straightforward representation, allowing imagination and design to shape each portrait as much as observation.
